Maya Kaimal Tikka Masala Indian Simmer Sauce Review

Maya Kaimal Tikka Masala Indian Simmer Sauce
Average Reviews:

This delicious sauce is an easy way to make an authentic, fresh tasting masala that will impress both you and your dinner friends - better than going out! It is an hearty compliment to either a vegetarian paneer/chick pea combo, or the more traditional chicken dish. For some time, you could only get this fine product on iine through I-gourmet, and then, suddenly, they stopped carrying it. You couldn't get it anywhere!!! Finding it again, as scrumptious as it was the first time I had it, was like finding a long lost friend you can't wait to embrace! This is the real deal, A+++++

Tandoor Chef Samosa with Chutney, 11-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Tandoor Chef Samosa with Chutney, 11-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)
Average Reviews:

These samosas remind me of empanadas. You have a bread stuffed with delicious food. We keep these frozen in the freezer, then defrost in the microwave and cook for 15 minutes in the conventional oven at 350 degrees. They are spicy to me. The chutney (yogurt and mint leaves) helps cut the spices. 4 samosas to a box with 6 boxes comes to ~$1 a samosa--expensive to us. Per samosa: calories 190; calories from fat 90; total fat 10g; saturated fat 4g; trans fat 0; cholesterol 0; sodium 397mg (16% RDA); total carbs 21g; fiber 2g; sugar 1g; protein 4g.

Couscous is a wonderful alternative for the carb-conscious; made from whole wheat, this is a healthy grain that makes a perfect main or side dish. I love the Near East line of couscous flavors--not only are they very quick (just 5 minutes!) and easy to make, but also they are delicious! The Mediterranean Curry variety adds a few vegetables plus a nice flavor. Try this couscous mixed with meat, tofu, additional veggies--just about anything!

Made from semolina wheat this savory couscous is great as a side dish, particularly with chicken, lamb or vegetables. Try couscous instead of rice or potatoes. With its short preparation time you can serve your family or friends an authentic Mediterranean dish right at home, easily and quickly. Makes about three 1-cup servings per box.

The whole jar is only 180 calories with very little fat and even a little fiber. Easily makes a meal for 4. I cut up 4 chicken breasts into 1" chunks and cook it, dump in the sauce, simmer for a minute, serve over rice and voila! So fast, easy and gooood. It's a little spicy and full of flavor.
I buy it at Cost Plus World Market.

Patak's Biryani Paste 10oz Review

Patak's Biryani Paste 10oz
Average Reviews:

While I am not Indian, I do cook Indian food from scratch quite often. I have taken lessons on and off for the past three years, and have gotten tips, recipes, and compliments from my Indian co-workers. This stuff is fantastic. I can quickly and easily create chicken or veggie Biryani that impresses the family. Is it as good as Biryani from complete scratch or from the restaurant where I took the classes? No. Do I make it often because it's so easy? Yes. 'Nuff said?

This paste is traditionally used for Biryani recipes, which combine meat, fish or poultry baked together with rice in a pot. It is typical of the Andra Pradesh region of India (the only Muslim State in Southern India).

Yellow Curry (Kang Karee) Paste Thai Maesri 4 Oz. Review

Yellow Curry (Kang Karee) Paste Thai Maesri 4 Oz.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this to replicate a Vietnamese curry I grew up with:
To a large pot add the following:
1 can of Karee Curry Paste with 1 can (14 oz) of coconut milk, 2-3 cups water, 3lbs of chicken, 2 large or 3 medium potatoes (cut to bite-sized cubes) and 2-3 carrots (same as potatoes), 1 large onion (cut into quarters), and a few whole jalepenos (remove the stem). You can also add a stick of lemongrass. You can also substitute coconut milk with regular milk, and eggplant for the chicken (veggie option).
Bring to boil then simmer for 20-30 minutes. Add corn starch to bring the soup to its desired consistency. I like it thicker and stew-like. Salt+MSG to taste. You will need MSG to bring the flavor out - I use 1 part MSG per 1 part salt.
Server over rice or with french bread. You can spritz in some lime (my parents always do) but I like it without the lime.
I'm lazy so this does end up over cooking the chicken a bit, but it ensures the potatoes and carrots are soft and mushy the way I like them - plus no extra steps. Make sure the water covers the chicken. Chicken breast seems to dry out, leg quarters stay tender. If you use eggplant I like to use larger chunks (1.5" or so) since they tend to mush up a bit.
Anyways I love this curry paste. I would get "curry pangs" and have to make this every couple weeks while I was in college. So easy to do and it would feed me for a few days.

This is amazing Indian food that you can make at home without having to go out, the tandoori is awesome and I also suggest the butter chicken.

Tandoori is a spicy Indian-style barbecue of marinated meats and vegetables served with creamy raita – a yogurt and cucumber sauce seasoned with herbs. Although we consider Tandoori a recipe, it is actually an Indian cooking method. Marinated meat is cooked over a fire in a tandoor – or clay oven, where the heat escapes through the top. Tandoori usually takes a long time to cook, but you can make your own delicious recipe in 30 minutes with a Gourmantra\' meal kit.

Pataks Tandoori Spicy Ginger and Garlic Sauce 11 oz Review

Pataks Tandoori Spicy Ginger and Garlic Sauce 11 oz

I used this product to create Tandoori chiken - which I marinated in yoghurt and this paste, and then cooked it on the barbeque for maximum flavour. I have always used Sharwoods Medium Tandoori Paste, however I could not find this product in the USA. I tried Pataks Tandoori paste, and it was nice, but definitely not as good as the Sharwoods Paste or the Sharwoods Tandoori Curry Powder.
Use Pataks if you cant find the Sharwoods equivalent.

Pataks Mild Curry Paste 10 Oz Review

Pataks Mild Curry Paste 10 Oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Patek's is my favorite curry paste--no MSG and simple ingredients. For a great, easy meal on an evening when you are too tired to make a curry from scratch, saute some onions, throw in a can of tomatoes, some water, and a few tablespoons of Patek's Mild Curry Paste, and then you can take it wherever you like it--meat, tofu, veggies--as your fancy strikes you.
Now this paste may say "mild," but there is still enough spice to make your mouth tingle pleasantly--just enough. When I serve Patek's mild, I take out some chicken or whatever before serving to my four-year-old--I don't think she could handle the "mild" spice level. Mom and Dad love it, though.
The downside is that one little jar does not go a long way. If you use the paste in the concentration that it calls for (and I recommend doing so, for an authentic Indian taste), you will get two or three dinners out of it. But for flavor and ease of use and sheer delight, you cannot beat Patek's. The guests you serve it to will be amazed--and you can hide your little jar in the refrig and bask in all that glory.
Amazon's cost is high for this item, at $5, but if convenience is important to you, then that's a consideration--having a powerful culinary secret delivered to your door might make the extra buck or two worth it. If you have time and are near an Asian/Indian foods store, then expect to pay $3 if you are lucky, or around $4 in most places. Stock up, because unopened, these last forever.

Shan Curry Powder Mix 100g
Average Reviews:

I love this curry powder mix. It's good for a variety of meats, I make lamb and chicken curry with it. It tastes like the good curry you get in an authentic Indian restaurant. And, it's easy to make, the directions are on the back. Just add meat, onions and plain yougert and you're all set. I also add a can of pigeon peas, but you can use any veg you want (although that's not in the recipe on box). You can adjust the "spicy hot" level by adding more or less of the curry powder. Try it if you're a curry lover, and even if you aren't --with this curry powder you may become one.

Has wonderful aroma and taste. My chicken tandoori came out perfect with this spice blend - I love this brand as you can see from my reviews. I have yet to be dissapointed with any of the Ajika products. I like that their spice blends do not have any msg. or salt. Many of the preblended spices from India could have msg. as it is popular to add them in spices in India - I am glad to have found a source of pure Indian spices

Ajika Green Cardamom Pods - Indian, Persian, Arabic,Morrocan Spice Review

Ajika Green Cardamom Pods - Indian, Persian, Arabic,Morrocan Spice
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The flavor of cardamom is medicinal to some--well, it has been used for years to mask the bad taste of remedies. It is a resinous (piney) aromatic bitter-sweet spice, rather intense. The green papery pods are broken open, and the dark seeds inside can be pulled out and ground in a mortar for use in breads, cookies, curries, puddings, chai and the like. It is the spice of "kheer"--Indian rice pudding, where sometimes the whole green pods are thrown in. I use it in tea or even coffee, bruising the black seeds slightly with the pestle. It is also commonly used in pilau (pilaf) or biryani, that festive Indian rice and meat or vegetable cassarole. Scandinavian cooking uses this spice in many cookies and cakes.
If you aren't used to the flavor, it can be a bit startling--not sweet and spicey like cinnamon or nutmeg. The pods are a nuisance to process, but the volatile essential oils are so fugitive that it's better to put up with the job of extracting the seeds than to use ground cardamom that will just lose its scent. Rather like the difference between fresh grated nutmeg and powdered.
