Thai Pavilion Garlic Basil Stir-Fry, 7.05-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Thai Pavilion Garlic Basil Stir-Fry, 7.05-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

I bought a bunch of these when Amazon was running a sale. I love the basil chicken (ga kra prao) that is served at Thai restaurants and have tried to replicate it myself with no luck. I am pleased to say that the sauce included in this product replicates it perfectly.
My tip is to use ground chicken rather than sliced. One sauce packet goes perfectly with 1/2 pound ground chicken. I also prefer jasmine rice rather than the included rice noodles.
Which brings me to the expensive part. If you do what I do, you're basically paying for a packet of sauce. And depending on how much you eat, and how many there are of you, that could mean multiple packets per meal.
Anyway, to sum up, I recommend you give it a try using ground chicken and then decide whether it's ever worth it to buy it again.

This is a good quick meal. I did find that the sauce is a little strong with fish sauce for my taste so I add extra garlic and a spoonful of peanut butter. It's a good sauce for sauted meat and veggies for a more rounded meal.

All natural. Authentic. Imported. This richly flavored sauce is usually served as a dipping sauce for one of Thailand's most famous appetizers - skewers chicken, beef, or pork. Our Peanut Satay is deliciously rich and is medium hot in spiciness. We have created a wonderful noodle dish with this sauce, which is a perfect accompaniment for chicken, beef, pork or shrimp. This dish is typically garnished with chopped scallion and ground peanuts. Our Kanom Jeen rice noodles are spaghetti-like, rice flour noodles that are enjoyed during traditional family celebrations in Thailand. They always remain unbroken until served as a wish for long life. Our Kanom Jeen rice noodles have a wonderful quality and remain al dente (firm) after cooking. Enjoy Thai food at home with authentic Thai Pavilion all-natural ingredients. When you serve our dishes, no one will ever guess they were so easy to prepare. Serves 2-4 in only 15-20 minutes. Yellow Curry (Kang Karee) Paste Thai Maesri 4 Oz. Review

Yellow Curry (Kang Karee) Paste Thai Maesri 4 Oz.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this to replicate a Vietnamese curry I grew up with:
To a large pot add the following:
1 can of Karee Curry Paste with 1 can (14 oz) of coconut milk, 2-3 cups water, 3lbs of chicken, 2 large or 3 medium potatoes (cut to bite-sized cubes) and 2-3 carrots (same as potatoes), 1 large onion (cut into quarters), and a few whole jalepenos (remove the stem). You can also add a stick of lemongrass. You can also substitute coconut milk with regular milk, and eggplant for the chicken (veggie option).
Bring to boil then simmer for 20-30 minutes. Add corn starch to bring the soup to its desired consistency. I like it thicker and stew-like. Salt+MSG to taste. You will need MSG to bring the flavor out - I use 1 part MSG per 1 part salt.
Server over rice or with french bread. You can spritz in some lime (my parents always do) but I like it without the lime.
I'm lazy so this does end up over cooking the chicken a bit, but it ensures the potatoes and carrots are soft and mushy the way I like them - plus no extra steps. Make sure the water covers the chicken. Chicken breast seems to dry out, leg quarters stay tender. If you use eggplant I like to use larger chunks (1.5" or so) since they tend to mush up a bit.
Anyways I love this curry paste. I would get "curry pangs" and have to make this every couple weeks while I was in college. So easy to do and it would feed me for a few days.

College Inn Culinary Broth Thai Coconut Curry, 32-Ounce (Pack of 6 ) Review

College Inn Culinary Broth Thai Coconut Curry, 32-Ounce (Pack of 6 )
Average Reviews:

All the reviews are right on and thanks for sharing your creative uses w/this wonderful soup. Here's another way to use it: with left-over chicken or fish: saute onions, a bit of garlic and mushrooms, add chicken or fish, add broth to make it somewhat or very soupy depending on your taste, add some fat-free sour cream and serve over brown rice or pasta.
My supermarket stopped stocking this product and College Inn's White Wine and Herbs chicken stock. They are looking for shelf space turnover and that apparently wasn't happening. I'm SOO glad Amazon is going to have it available.
Can't wait!

the sauce is what makes this pad Thai different. The sauce has a body to it. Not just to clear broth with nothing in it. It allows me to appreciate the rich flavors of Thai food. I feel like I am eating real food when I have it for lunch.

Mae Ploy Thai Yellow Curry Paste - 14 oz jar Review

Mae Ploy Thai Yellow Curry Paste - 14 oz jar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
New to Thai cuisine, I asked to try a milder curry, my tastes running to a maximum of medium heat. Yellow curry was recommended, and the coconut milk based Thai version was a treat with both seafood and chicken-something I've had occasion to order again and again.
So when trying to re-create the taste sensations above, I was less than thrilled at the idea of grinding individual spices, purchasing a number of pricey ingredients with limited shelf life and narrow applications.
I did some research and found that many Thai housewives rely on the time and labor savings of using high quality curry pastes as the basis for soups, curries and more. Mae Ploy was one of the brands repeatly mentioned as high quality and fresh tasting.
This brand comes in a handful of flavors and heat levels, with the Yellow Curry Paste being the first I was eager to try. It has a shelf life of 2 years, and the large plastic pouch also keeps very well nestled in its own colorful tub in the refrigerator.
The flavors of lemon grass, shallot, gingery galanga, kaffir lime peel, warm spices and red chili are very well balanced. This is the only Mae Ploy Curry paste without shrimp paste, making it vegan-suitable as well as delicious with shellfish, fish or fowl.
I like to snip off one corner of the clear packet, then squeeze out just the amount I need-anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon to 2 Tablespoons, depending on the recipe. This helps to maintain freshness and flavor and avoid waste.
For Thai curry, I will combine the Yellow Curry Paste with a small amount of chicken broth, then add 3/4 Cup more broth per person, plus a can of coconut milk to mellow and round the flavor. A cup or two of chunked seafood or chicken, plus cubed potatoes and onion-simmered together for about 30 minutes- makes a very satisfying dish to serve with either traditional sticky rice or more the more occidental long grain variety.
Mae Ploy's Thai Yellow Curry is also delicious with just a bit added to your favorite dip, salad dressing, or try a teaspoonful combined with 1 cup of sour cream or plain yogurt 'painted' over your favorite fish fillets and baked just until cooked through, (about 15-20 minutes at 325).
The fine quality of this product has encouraged me to order another flavorful curry paste-also excellent-and I would highly recommend this product for those wishing to re-create favorite restaurant fare at a reasonal price, without tedious preparation.

Mae Ploy Thai Panang Curry Paste - 14 oz jar Review

Mae Ploy Thai Panang Curry Paste - 14 oz jar

First of all, I downgraded this from 5 to 4 stars because of the packaging only. It comes packed in a plastic pouch that makes it very difficult to use every last bit. As far as the good stuff, I betcha this is what they use in Thai restaurants for panang curry. It is the simplest thing I've found when I'm really jonesing for some great curry - add some coconut milk (the real thing, not that lite junk), a little fish sauce, some sugar, and whatever veggies you have around - red bell pepper, carrots, zucchini, a nice fat serrano chili - maybe a little chicken - ladle it over some brown rice - voila! A great meal. I have kept this in the fridge for over six months at a time with no molding or spoilage whatever. Try it!

While the restaurants always do it best, these curry pastes are pretty tasty. It's easy to use, fast, and you can add the meat and veggies of your choice. For those of you scared of something spicy, you might use a little less, but for most, it's just right, and for those that like it spicier, you can add a little crushed red pepper. Since the coconut milk has to be added separately, you can also control the fat content--you can go light or go with the much yummier, creamy stuff. For the price, you can't do better--it's affordable, easy, and fun to make!
The panang curry has a nice mellow flavor with some spice and goes quite well with seafood. Some great compliments to this sauce: scallops, shrimp, squid, and fish; if you add all of these, you get an insanely tasy, luxurious meal. Another thing you can do is add a hint of thai basil to cook with all this--it gives it an extra authentic feel and works well with the overall dish!
