Campbell's Wonton Soup 10.75 oz - 6 Unit Pack Review

I LOVED this soup when I first tried it years ago. I've been looking for it recently and found it here. I bought a few cans but was very disappointed to learn they changed the recipe. The flavor is still there (well, mostly) but the wonton fillings are no longer bulbous, filled sections, they are now paper-thin fillings(no exaggeration, it's just a thin line) - the wontons aren't round any more, they're flat! The wonton filling was the best (and main) part of the soup but it's practically gone now.
I'm hoping they go back to their old recipe and not be so stingy on the filling. The wontons aren't abundant and they're tiny, so how much could it really cost to fill them and satisfy their customers?

Begun by fruit merchant Joseph Campbell in 1869, Campbell's revolutionized the soup/canning industry with the introduction of Condensed soup in 1897. Able to reduce the price of canned soup to ten cents from an average of thirty cents, Campbell's officially added the word Soup to their company name in 1922. Their varieties and brands are now marketed worldwide.

This was a great purchase for me. The sodium per serving is only 6% and I have to be on a very low sodium diet. The small cans are convenient for me when I just want single servings. When using for a cooking base, I just open more cans. Since they are pop top cans they are also very easy to open for my arthritic fingers.

Pretty much what you taste is...salty brothiness. But there is white meat chicken and a decent amount of both carrots and rice. I find this soup is helpful as a hunger stopgap when I'm trying to cut my calories. It's not hugely flavorful, but it's hot and has few calories and little fat, so it's okay.
I also think it's fine with a sandwich for a soup-n-sandwich type lunch on those days when I'm sick of a tomato-based soup (which tend to be more flavorful, frankly).

If you don't like a salty taste, this is not for you. Despite lower salt content than regular Campbell's, it still tastes hugely salty to me.
I think of it as a soupy tool to manage my crazy appetite. Some days. :)
Enjoy.

These are one of the new "light" soups Campbell has created. I wanted something with a little less salt, so I chose the Chicken with Egg Noodles. I shared this soup with a friend of mine. We both agreed that the chicken broth was horrible. Salt wasn't the problem, there was a particular herb flavor that just didn't belong in the soup. Everything else was fine. The egg noodles were still firm. The chicken were in big chunks though there just weren't that many. The veggies were good too, the celery and carrots were not mushy at all. However, I simply cannot recommend anyone purchasing this because of the horrible broth and the lack of chicken and veggies. It's mostly water in a can.

I am a family man with the normal trappings of American society; i.e. a mortgage, car payment, insurance payments, children in school, medical bills, grocery bills, well you get the picture. I am therefore frugal by design, because I do like to save a little of what I make. That means that I rarely buy my lunch in the company-sponsored cafeteria, or at a local (sit down or take-out) restaurant. I bring my lunch to work every day in the guise of Campbell's Chunky Soup in an 18.6 oz can.
Campbell's Chunky Soup comes in a number of different varieties not all of which I enjoy, but I do enjoy most, including Campbell's "Chunky Grilled Chicken w/ Vegetables and Pasta," the subject of this review. The soup brand, whose tag line used to be "so thick you could eat it with a fork, but bring a spoon because you'll want to get every drop," is actually quite tasty, much more so than Progresso Soup, which I find (very) bland in comparison. And Campbell's Chunky Soup is good for you; most of the varieties have vegetables and lean cuts of meat, and are low in fat and contain at least 2 grams of dietary fiber.
"Chunky Grilled Chicken w/ Vegetables and Pasta" contains (2) servings with 100 calories and 2 grams of fat per serving. Loaded with generous bite sized portions of chicken, pasta, and vegetables, the "Soup That Eats Like a Meal," is enough to satisfy me for a few hours and the average cost is only $1.59 per can at my local Target Super Store. How is that for an inexpensive lunch? But my local Target and Jewel does not carry all of the varieties, but enough so that I can partake in a different flavor every day of the work week; on average I eat four cans of soup a week for lunch.
Nutritional Information
Ingredients: chicken stock, water, cooked chicken meat, carrots, potatoes, cooked enriched pasta, corn, diced tomatoes, and green beans; contains less than 2% of the following: celery, red peppers, salt, and dehydrated onions.
Servicing information: One serving (1 Cup) of "Chunky Grilled Chicken w/ Vegetables and Pasta" contains 100 Calories, 2 grams of fat (including 0.5 grams of saturated fat), 15mg of Cholesterol, 880mg of Sodium, 15 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of dietary fiber, 3 grams of sugar, and 8 grams of protein.
Conclusion
There is always plenty of Campbell's Chucky Soup in the pantry at my house. It is by-and-large the only kind I buy and "Chunky Grilled Chicken w/ Vegetables and Pasta"figure highly on my shopping list each week. Low in calories and fat, "Chunky Grilled Chicken w/ Vegetables and Pasta" is a tasty alternative to burger and fries, and even a sandwich. And most importantly if fills me up until my mid-afternoon snake. Yes, a serving is a little high in sodium, but hey a guy has to live a little; no worries.

Do not have the title confuse you, this isn't chinese soup. It's Cambell's chicken soup, only the noodles are in the shape of wontons. With that in mind, its relatively low cal, its as tasty as chicken soup with noodles, and it makes a nice change in the shape of the pasta thats a bit more adult. if you throw in a little rice vinegar, some chinese cabbage, etc, you can sort of fake it.

Of all the light or healthy versions of canned soups by Campbell's (and others, too), this is my favorite. True, I happen to like most things that are Mexican in flavor, so that's a factor. But after sampling some "diet-friendly" soups that were bland or boring or heavy on the celery flavor (hate that), this was a lovely change.
I've made sure to keep it stocked in my pantry for over a year now.
It's tomatoey brothy, it's got black beans and chicken and rice, but it's not stew-like. It still has plenty of broth, so it's adaptable. I tend to sprinkle some low-fat cheddar on top to add to the flavor and texture. Some days, I'll open a can of black beans and add it for more fiber. When I want to splurge, I add more beans, corn, low fat cheese and a tiny dollop of lite sour cream.
If you have leftover veggies and rice, you can thicken it into a stew. I've done it, and it works.
Some info: One cup has 130 calories. It has 480 mg of sodium per serving, and 2 g of fat--one of those saturated--plus 2 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein.
This is just a fun soup and tasty and a winner from Campbell's. I hope it stays in their line permanently.
A note: The convenient microwavable can version of this doesn't taste as good. It probably has to do with it being cooked IN the can in the nuker, maybe, not sure. But I did notice it tasted "tinny" in that other packaging. I'd recommend THIS can and cooking in a non-reactive pot (ie, stainless steel), because this broth is very tomatoey.
Enjoy.

I bought these as a quick, low calorie (around 320 for the can) lunch for work. The soup isn't bad tasting; in fact, it has an interesting almost-Indian flavor. But it still seems to be missing something that makes it seem more substantial like Chunky's other hearty soups. I think I'll try half a can next time poured over a baked potato.

howdy y'all,
this is nothing more than a bland, chunky version of chicken & veggie soup with rice. i was expecting a bit more flavor. with "savory" in the name it seems like it otta be tastier.
- the rice is nice
- the chicken chunks are rather small
- the flavor is rather bland
rated this a THREE cuz there is nothing either for or against it. i really think it otta have more flavor.
take care,
lee

Good soup! And at least this order arrived un-dented :) Other cans of soup I've ordered from Amazon were dented, like someone pulled dented cans off the shelf and pack them in my order. Some were so badly dented I was not sure if the soup inside was safe to eat. It threw out half of the order.
I wish I could order these again since it's convenient to have them delivered but I'm not likely to order again since I don't want to take a chance on badly dented cans showing up.

howdy y'all,
this item is NOT fajita anything. there is no detectable scent or flavor of fajita at all. [*sigh ...*] it's a chili-flavored chicken and veggie soup.
problems ...
- no fajita anything
- chili powder [fajitas DO NOT use chili powder!]
- carrots [in fajitas?]
- kidney beans [large, starchy, slightly gritty and not at all southwestern. why not use pinto beans like every decent tex-mex joint in the world?]
i rated this a TWO cuz it IS a tolerable chili-veggie-chicken soup.
take care,
lee

I am going to be blunt. This would be a very tasty product, however I believe the broth is not as rich as it should be thus killing the flavor. I tend and or suspect it maybe due to chickens being bombarded with hormones for faster growth. Genetically enhanced meat have less flavor than our meats did from years past.

Rice a Roni Chicken, 6.9-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 24) Review

Rice a Roni Chicken, 6.9-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 24)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Rice-A-Roni is a fairly easy-to-prepare, flavorful side dish. Where you need to be careful is cooking time. Not enough time and the rice is too hard. Too much cooking time and it turns to mush. The most consistent way I have found is to saute the rice & noodle mix in butter (or margarine) until the vermicelli turns a medium shade of brown (directions say "golden", but it needs more time.) Add the water and seasoning. Stir. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to low to simmer for about 20 minutes. The important thing is that the liquid needs to be completely absorbed into the rice & noodles.
When the liquid has been absorbed, taste the mixture. The rice may still be a bit hard and need more time. Give it a few more minutes.
Do not reduce the amount of water from what the directions call for.
