(More customer reviews)I have had dogs all my life. I used to only give dog food & table scraps for years. I noticed with a poor human diet of my family & dog food they died early and/or had many issues.
We had one dog that would not eat dog biscuits of any kind if made with grains & would rather starve then eat kibble. If fed canned dog food w/grains he was lethargic & had bad gas. That is when realized dogs cannot digest grains. We did research to find kibble is cooked at such high temperatures that all the good nutrients are gone & all you have left is the oils, etc. that is hard to digest.
Our dog now within a year of his birth was very lethargic, moody, depressed & seemed to have arthritis even on no grain kibble. Within a month of given rice & meat only canned dog food he was more energetic & no more arthritis. He still had a little issue with rice, so we find very simple dog food or rarely give it to him & give him human grade canned or refrigerated pre-cooked meat with frozen veggies, pre-cooked eggs, occasional fresh fruits, nuts & olive oil for fat for shiny coat.
With the China scare I was not worried much since he ate mostly human grade food & the dog food I choose I read the labels for the most quality ingredients.
When I read these reviews, I admit since I've used this product for 2 years w/o issues on a sensitive dog, I never checked the origin like I do when debating new dog food products. I checked the internet & this product was never on the recall list & they had their product analyzed by a lab very soon after the massive recall to prove they were safe. (Do a search.)
Considering almost all dog products have grains, there are so many dog "cookies" it's very hard to find simple meat treats w/nothing added.
Edit:
We bought beef tendon treats & found out the hard way irritated foods also made our dogs very grumpy, not want to be bothered & lethargic for several days. Luckily this product is also not irritated. We wouldn't know what to do without them.

(More customer reviews)I have a finicky puppy. That's right, puppy, not kitten. I know this is hard to believe. After all, dogs are to food as, well, dogs are to food. Except mine. Oscar has tried a number of different foods -- all top of the line. And while he initially seems to like them, his early enthusiasm fades quickly. We're still giving Halo a chance -- sort of a last effort before adding canned food to the mix, something we desperate want to avoid. So far, so good. Certainly worth a try for those starting out and those contemplating a switch.

It's really important to me that she eats a very healthy diet, and while I'm not doing the raw food diet, I do scrutinize labels for meat by-products, BHA, and useless fillers. With that said, my cat couldn't care less for those "healthy" treats that had passed my inspection. I have a cupboard full of treats I felt comfortable giving her that she ended up saving so she could play with them later. So, out of desperation, I bought these; a treat is, after all, a treat. And she goes berserk over them. She's runs to the kitchen whenever I simply open a cupboard, hoping I'm about to give her one of her precious treats. I've also finally taught her to Come on command! And, to be honest, other treats (including this brand's regular treats) have a lot worse ingredients.

(More customer reviews)I'm so glad Amazon is selling the kitty treats now (in addition to the doggie version). I have 2 large orange tabby cats, which the vet said are genetically predisposed to hip problems. He said they could have a glucosamine supplement to help with this. I have fed a few treats daily (which they LOVE!) to both cats since they were 6 months old, and have had no hip problems so far. Cats go crazy for these treats and there are a few varieties, so they don't get bored. I also give the flaxseed and vitamin version of the treats, 1 bag to every 2 bags of the happy hips version. One bag lasts a couple of weeks, fed daily per instructions. This price is excellent, especially with the subcribe and save. Our local health food store sells these treats for $4.00 a bag. This is a great way to give a cat vitamin supplements. They willingly (and eagerly) eat them.

One of my cats will eat just about anything you offer him and he wouldn't even try them. They gobble up the Liv-a-littles dehydrated chicken so I thought I'd try these. Looks like raccoons are getting these! I do not recommend!!

(More customer reviews)I wish I could buy these on subscription like other groceries on Amazon. I start getting nervous when we get low on this stuff. The moment I touch the bag, my two cats and two dogs line up in a row and wait in eager anticipation for treat time. When we are out of them they all just wander around the kitchen scowling at me. By a long shot, this is everybody's favorite treat. And I love the fact that there's nothing else in these except chicken. I know this product is designed to be sprinkled on top of food and when we get down to the bottom of the bag we use them for that, but for small dogs and cats, these make a great treat. A big dog would probably devour the whole bag in a matter of minutes so I wouldn't bother for big dogs unless you wanted to use them as a training treat. The chunks are small, but for my chihuahuas and cats they are practically a meal.
If they seem pricey for the amount you get, remember that dehydration removes the water and without the water meat weighs about 1/4 of what it weighed when fully hydrated. These aren't cheap by any measure, but they aren't ridiculously expensive either when you consider that one 4oz bag is made from about a pound of meat and unlike most treats they aren't packed with fillers.

Well, i used to get the chicken kabobs sold by smokehouse but i recently tried these and my dog begs for them.....when he gets one he gets so excited and chews it right up.....they break nice and easy too so he doesnt have a hard time chewing them like other dog products such as greenies and jumbones.
