Although I knew it was a very nice gift, I'd never priced it until a friend asked for a recommendation on a roaster for a Thanksgiving turkey. I was really not terribly surprised at the price since I've used the roaster over and over and it still looks brand new, but I did have a renewed gratefulness for the gift! This roaster is very heavy, and with the deep lid, is also extremely versatile. I was a little concerned about food sticking, since I'd been raised using non-stick cookware, however, I was so pleased with the results that I no longer own non-stick cookware at all. Every roast, bird, or casserole I've made in this roaster has turned out beautifully. This is one item in my kitchen that I am certain will be passed down to my grandchildren some day.
