(More customer reviews)I love the Plato line of products as they allow me to just mindlessly pick from the line and know that I am feeding something good to my dog(s). As for "Smart Dog Snacks" with Ginkgo Biloba and DHA...I'd better watch out, because my dogs love these treats so much that the treats just may make them smart enough to figure out how to open the "treat cabinet" take the container down and unscrew the lid to help themselves!
While the treats themselves look like beef jerky, they are made with all natural, organic ingredients. The dogs don't care what's in these treats, they just know they love them. As I am typing this they are both sitting at attention, staring at me and whimpering while trying to do the Jedi Mind Trick of "you want to give us more Smart Dog Snacks, pick up your hand from that keyboard and reach in the container and hand us more. Do it. Do it now."
There's so much junk out there and plenty of junk food that claims to be natural (just like people food) but this stuff is the real deal. Much like the food that I feed to the humans in the family, I know what each of the ingredients are and love that the first two ingredients are duck and brown rice. There aren't cost cutting fillers in these treats; it's a straight up high quality product. As an aside, I've bought from the seller, The Whole Healthy Pet many times, and I am always impressed with the products they carry. Just as I know that I can trust the Plato brand, I know that if a product is being carried by The Whole Healthy Pet, then it is a high quality product and I feel like a good parent getting it for my dogs.

They smell good like people food and not dog food. It's been a challenge to find him something soft that also seems to be healthy. We actually have to call these "H.H.s" in our house because he knows what Happy Hips are! Whether or not they make his hips happy I can't really tell but I figure it can't hurt! F.Y.I. - not all products in the Happy Hips line are soft.

(More customer reviews)My lab mix has a very sensitive tummy. He had recurrent bouts of diarrhea, vomiting and constant wretched gas. I had given him pedigree for awhile but realized that was no good for him. Then we tried science diet, but his gas seemed to get worse and his tummy would gurgle all day.
I read about this dog food and its natural ingredients. There's no corn meal or other fillers. He's been on this food for about 2 weeks now and his gas has disappeared! He has not had a single bout of diarrhea or vomiting. I'm impressed. Yes it's pricey and I normally wouldn't buy something so expensive, but it is well worth it for the health of my dog.
*Updated* to say that he has been on this food for a few months now and has continued to be free of tummy troubles and wretched gas. He hasn't vomited at all or had diarrhea. His coat has gotten so much shinier and he seems to be a much happier dog without all the tummy issues!

Natural Balance Potato and Duck Formula Dog Food, 30-Pound Bag Review

(More customer reviews)This food was the best out there until Spring 2009, then they changed the formula. If you check the website, they admit they lost their access to the "quality" duck protein they were using. Easy way to tell was the food went from light brown to greenish. That, and after your dog eats the new formula, he will throw up and have diarrhea all over your house. I have two mutts, neither of which are picky eaters. Both of them chose to starve, rather than eat this food after the formula change. When combined with the fact that Natural Balance was part of that Chinese dog poisoning issue a few years back, I don't trust this company not to kill my dogs.
By the way, if you buy it from PetCo, you will never know, since this food is a good seller, and PetCo has been editing its reviews of the product to delete anything that puts people off the food. They should be ashamed of themselves, and I won't be getting food there, anymore.
Do yourself and your dogs a favor and avoid Natural Balance Ultra.

(More customer reviews)I have made every effort to NOT buy/feed anything made in China to my pet. I researched these duck/sweet potato treats before finally deciding to buy them. Nowhere on the amazon product page does it tell you where these treats are made, so I searched for the Smokehouse website which claimed that ONLY some of their CHICKEN treats contained chicken from China, but all other products are made in the USA. So, I felt safe in purchasing these duck/sweet potato treats. After opening a bag, and giving them to my dog did I glance at the product origin. Needless to say my dog likes them very much, but I was NOT happy to find PRODUCT OF CHINA on the bag.
Boo hiss to amazon for not putting the product origin on the product page, and to Smokehouse for misleading consumers on their product information website. Why do they do this, because there are customers just like me that care where the product originates. Many of you may not be concerned about this, but I am, and I think it's very misleading not to provide accurate, and complete information about the product when purchasing from an internet store. At least the product doesn't smell like plastic like the Dingo products.
I won't be purchasing these again. My dog seemed to like them, but she won't be getting anymore of them. I took a star off due to the lack of complete information from amazon, and misleading information from Smokehouse.
UPDATE: Big thumbs up to amazon for great customer service. When I called to return this item they were very helpful in processing a refund, and because it is considered a grocery item I didn't even have to return the items. I had also purchased the Smokehouse duck chips, but they too are made in China. I suggested the addition of the country of origin to both product pages. Just another reason why I don't hesitate to purchase from amazon. They truly have great customer service....rare these days.

(More customer reviews)These tasty morsels of dehydrated apple slice wrapped in a strip of chicken are represented as being " all natural" , "premium chicken breast" "no by-products - no preservatives " AND are said to contain 115 mg. of glucosamine HCl an 80 mg. of chondroitin SO4. AND...the dogs LOVE them. HOWEVER...Look at the label a little closer and it is made where??? MADE IN CHINA . In a disclaimer addressing this concern ( remember the dogs and cats dying due to melamine poisoning to their kidneys when the Chinese manufactured protein was enhanced with the deadly protein heavy plastic used in dog food European , Canadian and American manufacturers had purchased from China?) a paste on circular label has been attached to the front stating " Tested in USA"...and explaining that the testing is random and performed regularly. SINCE THERE IS NO AGENCY REGULATING/ MANDATING quality control in the US of dog food manufactured elsewhere , my question is By whom ? May I see the results of the tests? Who is doing the testing?
One treat a day for each dog ( Bichons) and they scarf it down and LOVE it....so the four stars for appeal. I am acting on good faith giving it to them and hoping I am not sorry at a future date. They really do look yummy!!!

(More customer reviews)I didn't realize when I bought these that they were made in China. In fact, I fed them to my dogs until someone looking at the package pointed it out to me. I'm a little leery of buying dogs treats from China and other developing countries since the melamime incident. Who knows what oversight there is on the production. So, now I order *only* Snook's sweet potatoe dog chews from Healthy Happy Pet (through Amazon). These are organic dried sweet potato chunks made in the US and my dogs **love them**. I also get Sam's Yams but the Snook's are nice and crunchy. I got a small bag for my sister's Shih Tzus and they loved them as well. If Dogswell would find a place in the US to make their products, I'd be willing to buy. But as long as they are made in China-- won't do it anymore.
