(More customer reviews)This has a distinct aroma and yet it only brings out the original flavor of the foods you sprinkle it on. It does what a good salt substitute should do which is to bring out your favorite flavors. Actually, it seems to do the job even better than salt itself. Most of the elderly folks that live around here prefer this to salt by far because it doesn't have that tingling aftertaste. I would recommend buying this if you can't find this at your local grocery store or supermarket even though the shipping is more expensive than the product.

Chef Paul Prudhommes Magic Seasoning Blends has been in business since 1982 when customers from Chef Pauls New Orleans-based K-Pauls Louisiana Kitchen restaurant began asking to take home the chefs unique seasonings. What was once a garage-housed operation has grown to a 50,000 square-foot plant. Currently, Magic Seasoning Blends offers all-natural, MSG free products in sixteen different blends; Magic Pepper Sauce; seven ground, dried Magic Chiles; four Magic Sauce & Marinades; and several cookbook gift-packs.
To use Magic Seasoning Blends in Chef Pauls recipes simply add up the amount of dry herbs and spices called for in the recipes "Seasoning Mix". Substitute the appropriate blend (for example, if you were doing a chicken dish, youd substitute Poultry Magic) in the proportioned amounts for each cookbook listed below:
Substitute approximately ¾ the amount for Chef Paul Prudhommes "Seasoned America" CookbookSubstitute approximately ½ the amount for Chef Paul Prudhommes "Fork In The Road" CookbookSubstitute approximately the same amount for Chef Paul Prudhommes "Fiery Foods That I Love", "Louisiana Kitchen", "Kitchen Expedition", and "Louisiana Tastes" cookbooks
If a recipe calls for a sweet spice or an unusual ingredient subtract the amount of sweet or unusual spice prior to adding up the dry herb seasoning mix, then add back the subtracted ingredient(s) to the Magic Seasoning Blends amount required for the conversion.

(More customer reviews)Wow - this stuff sells out fast -- I no sooner got an e-mail from amazon saying it was back in stock than when I went to order it, amazon said there's was only 1 left in stock so I was able to grab the last one this time ---- the same thing happens at the grocery store: they get it back in stock and it sells out right away.
This has a wonderful aroma when you open the container. It's a slightly citrus smell and you can smell the spiciness of the pepper. The definite plus - and the reason I gave it 5 stars - is that there's no salt, no MSG and no added sugars. It seems most seasoning products have salt and sugar listed as some of their main ingredients - why pay an arm and a leg for salt and sugar?
Mostly I use this on fish and chicken although I have used it on pork tenderloin when I'm going for a more citrus flavor for the pork. One trick I've learned is that this stuff tastes even better if you can soak or marinade it and let the dried herbs blend and come to full fruition in some sort of liquid -- my favorite is white wine. That's definitely not necessary as it's good just as good if you just shake it on top of food, but the "soaking" seems to blend the flavors really well.
Ingredients contain (per 1/4 teaspoon) no calories, no fat, no salt, no protein, no carbs, no nothing. Here's what's in it as listed on the container: onion, spices (black pepper, basil, oregano, celery seed, savory, thyme, cayenne pepper, coriander, cumin, mustard, rosemary, marjoram) garlic, lemon juice powder, carrot, citric acid, lemon peel, natural lemon flavor, oil of lemon, turmeric color, chili pepper. Just so you know, there's a definite peppery flavor or taste to this.
Being an old lady, I really watch my sodium intake (as well as sugar and fat)and use these types of products on a regular basis.

I have been using Magic Seasoning Blend for years on a variety of foods and have not gotten tired of it.

Taste-wise it is excellent, and because it is grainular, I can add exactly the right amount. My only slight negative is that the bottles themselves are very small, so I am opening them up more than I used to. But it's a minor complaint.

(More customer reviews)My family has been a roast chicken fan for a very long time. I think it started with KFC like 20 years back. Then Costco started to offer Rotisserie Chicken, so very good.
Then some enterprising family member got a vertical roasting pan. Well we (they not me) experimented and found salt and Paul Prodhomme's Poultry Magic were an awesome combo.
I went to college and received my own vertical roasting pan as a gift and I used the same mix.
At some point I decided to try something different and came upon Mrs Dash's. I have to admit I don't like it as much as PPPM, but I really like it and keep a bottle around. I cheat on whole chickens, I salt the cavity and use the chicken grilling blend or the original blend on the outside.
I have a Ronco Rotessire now and use this on chicken thighs and legs. Not all the time, but in a rotation of spices and marinades.
This blend adds flavor without fat or calories. Definitely worth having a bottle around.

(More customer reviews)This is a great product! I have congestive heart failure from a pneumonia virus in 2004. It is great to use for soups instead of chicken stock in the can or other boullion, great for chicken dressing, chicken dumplings, chicken spaghetti, alfredo, adding to stuffing. Use in turnip greens instead of bacon grease, bacon or ham to add a good flavor a little vinegar gives it a slightly salty taste. The beef is also good and we use in beef stew or more beef based broths sometimes, also can use to help make brown gravy without grease, fat or sodium. These are must haves in our pantry!
