(More customer reviews)I looked for a long while to find a dry kibble that my cats would enjoy and tolerate. One cannot have rice or other grains. They preferred the previous formula of Nature's Variety Instinct Rabbit meal formula. I purchased a new bag and the cats wouldn't touch it and in fact were repelled by it. I looked at the ingredients and the order, and they were the same until you got to the ingrediant "Natural Chicken flavor" on the old bag. On the new bag, it said "Natural pork flavor." The individual kibble are flatter and airy and the old kibble was denser and a bit rounder. Further the old formula says "90%+ of the protein is from rabbit,salmon,chicken, herring meals." The new formula says "75% pure animal ingredients and nutriousl oils." In any case, there are some differences. I'm not sure if it is the pork flavor, the disc texture and density or even if there is a change in the ratio. THe first bag references the percentage of protein and its identity, whereas the new bage simply indicates the percentage of animal ingredients. I have some sad kitties who loved the old formula. Looking at [...] review of premium dry, it also lists other types that might also appeal to kitties.

(More customer reviews)I adopted a cat about 8 months ago from the Humane Society, and discovered pretty quickly that he did great on canned foods, but dry foods would always give him loose stools if not diarrhea. I'm fine with feeding wet only for the most part; after all cats do need a wet diet and dry foods are mainly just a convenience product. But that being said, sometimes I'd like to have a getaway for 24-48 hours without having to arrange a pet sitter for such a short time. Any longer than that and of course I'd have someone come to look after him, or take him with me. I tried several brands of dry foods which were supposed to be premium, including Eagle pack Ocean fish flavor, Innova EVO, California Natural with Chicken and Rice (also made by Innova), and Blue Buffalo. He couldn't digest any of them and I ended up donating all of them back to the Humane Society. I finally quit experimenting and did what I should have done to begin with, called the vet. They suggested I come in for some free samples of food, and I was given Eagle Pack chicken and rice, which the vet recommends for diarrhea-prone cats (and canine formula for dogs). I literally cringed when I put a small handfull of it on top of his wet food for the first time. Even the Eagle Pack ocean fish formula hadn't worked for my boy, but I've since learned that too much fish doesn't sit well with him. I was so sure the Chicken formula would result in horrible, watery diarrhea too, but it did not! His stools are really solid with this food, and I can tell he's feeling good too, by the way he cuddles and plays--he's older and the least playful cat I've ever seen, so for him to attack my leg is actually a big deal. I don't understand why this food works for him when the Innova chicken/rice formula didn't, but I do have faith in Eagle Pack. It's good quality, locally produced (at least for me), reasonably priced at my small local food store, and the ingredients all come from the USA instead of China.

(More customer reviews)My two goldens approve of this product. Blue Buffalo uses top of the line ingredients, human food grade-- there's a chicken version and a fish version. No yucky meat "by-products", meat and meat meals are the top ingredients, no indigestible corn or wheat, a wide variety of wholesome and varied vegetable ingredients and several probiotics to promote healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. On top of that, this is a very palatable food.
Blue Buffalo also uses a unique process to manufacture "lifebits" which are added to the basic "kibble" food. These smaller, darker pieces are cold formed in order to better maintain nutrients. I don't believe any other company incorporates this kind of element into dog food.
I respect what they are doing, and I've changed to Blue Buffalo food for my cat, too.
