Velveeta, Rotini & Cheese with Broccoli, 9.4-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) Review

Velveeta, Rotini and Cheese with Broccoli, 9.4-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12)

There are two Velveeta pasta and cheese dinners. This one, and Kraft Velveeta Original Shells & Cheese, 12 oz. They both use packets of cheese sauce, not packets of powder.
But sadly, this one's not that good. It's salty, and the tiny bits of broccoli are few and far between. And with all the sodium (1230 mg per serving compared to 940 mg for the regular Shells and Cheese), it's a long way from healthy.
Shells and Cheese is better. It's pure, creamy comfort food that goes down smooth and leaves no aftertaste. The pasta's ridged-shell shape makes every bite taste good, as dribbles of cheese seep into each piece and stick to its sides. It's much better than the broccoli version... and way more yummy (if more expensive) than the regular Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Supermac & Cheese Pasta and Sauce, 6-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 24).

Kraft Velveeta Shells & Cheese Cup Broccoli, 2.44-Ounce Cup (Pack of 10) Review

Kraft Velveeta Shells and Cheese Cup Broccoli, 2.44-Ounce Cup (Pack of 10)

I'm always skittish of instant mac & cheese meals. Not only are they usually full of fattening stuff, but they tend to not be as good as the types you make at home. However, with my schedule & finances I usually tend to go for whatever is on sale & whatever is easiest & quickest to make on my 30 minute lunch breaks.
I've never really tried any of the mac & cheese cups put out by Velveeta, but the idea of a broccoli mix was just too interesting to pass up. How fresh would the broccoli taste? How would the cup flavor? How fast would it be to make?
With some of the other noodle products I've had, all you have to do is soak the noodles in extremely hot water for 3 minutes & they're ready (rather than microwaving for 3 minutes), so I assumed that this would be the same for the Velveeta brand as well. I discovered that this wasn't the case, so I had to actually pop the cup into the microwave for the full three minutes in order to fully cook the noodles. I know that others might try the same thing I did, so I wanted to be sure to point out that you absolutely have to have a microwave in order to make this.
Once out, the noodles were nice & tender, plus I was impressed by how fresh the broccoli looked. (The broccoli was in dried & in a pouch I had to add to the noodles before microwaving.) After adding in the cheese pouch (which is NOT powder- YAY!) & letting it sit for a minute to thicken, the cup was ready to eat. So easiness factor is pretty good, once I realized that there was no getting around the microwaving part.
Taste-wise, this product is nice. There aren't any big chunks of broccoli in the product, but there was enough that I definitely got a broccoli taste from it. Since the cheese was actual Velveeta cheese product & not powdered, the cup was much creamier & tasted better than many of the other products I've had previously.
Why the 4 stars? Because I couldn't help but wish that the broccoli chunks were a bit bigger- they were little more than sprigs & an accent than an actual part of the meal. Plus as far as nutritional value goes, it isn't the healthiest choice out there. Sure, there's broccoli but not enough of it to really make a difference health-wise & certainly not enough to count as an actual serving of veggies. Plus it won't be enough for many eaters, so they'll have to add on other sides in order to feel full, which will make for more calories & sodium added to the meal.

Romano's Macaroni Grill Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken and Pasta Boxed Dinner Review

This was a very delightful surprise! This box is the 8 ounce size for 4 people. This brand also comes in a double box size to serve 8 (or 4 people 2 separate times). This has pesto flavor and is very rich tasting, but takes just minutes to prepare. Very tasty and very good deal for the price. Add a salad and/or bread and you're set. Nice change from the usual "what can we make quickly for dinner" list! FYI, the chicken does not come with it, so you can prepare it with or without chicken--very tasty either way.

This is the spaghetti that I remember from my childhood. Mom made this. So it goes without saying that I have special feelings concerning this spaghetti dinner. I'm not sure what it is that gives this it's special flavor, but it is incredible, must be something in the flavor packet. So, when I'm feeling homesick, I make up a big plate of this spaghetti. And I can't have it without making garlic toast and serving with a huge ice cold glass of milk. I have a terrible fear that it will be discontinued one day! Woe is me if they do that.

Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 3-Ounce Easy Open Cans (Pack of 24) Review

Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 3-Ounce Easy Open Cans (Pack of 24)

Salty and rank with an inedible flavor and a mushy, slimy texture. I couldn't even finish the first can and I had 23 more to do. My cat took a few sniffs of it and then walked away. If he won't eat it knowing how my cat loves tuna, I won't either. It's not even pure tuna in water. It contains vegetable broth with soy on top of the salt that's in there. This little can has 350 mg. of sodium. Truly disgusting.
There's another good review of the same tuna which is the one I saw. Had I seen these I wouldn't have bought this. I'm going to post this on the other page too.
