The mild sweetness doesn't interfere with the sophisticated spices that make this a dinner you could serve good company. It's a complex sauce with a bold, rich flavor, delicately nuanced but not busy and cluttered like too much store-bought ethnic food.
I could wish for a little more robust texture. This sauce pours out of the jar very thinly, and I need to simmer longer than the allotted time to make it stand up. But that's a minor issue, since I can eventually make it work, and the flavor more than makes up for the inconvenience. This sauce is a new regular in my household menu.
