(More customer reviews)As a very fussy packaged product eater, this is the only canned clam chowder I will buy. It has the best flavor of any canned clam chowder I have ever tried, but it isn't without its flaws.
The main problem I have is that almost every can has at least a few pieces of clam that are sandy. It is extremely unpleasant to bite down on one of these, and it makes my jaw tingle for several minutes every time. As much as I enjoy the flavor, I can deal with this, but some people may not.
Also, there is a rotten (or at least black for some reason) piece of potato in about 1 out of every 4 cans. I have to watch out for this as I eat it.
It's also a little thicker than I would like it to be, so I often thin it out slightly with milk.
I like to sprinkle some crumbled bacon and green onions over this to jazz it up. That helps make it taste a little more like "homemade".
You may wonder why I gave it four stars when I have to deal with sand and the occasional black potato chunk. Well, it's simply because no other canned product I've tried even comes close. I would easily give this 5 stars if the sand and potato issues were fixed with better quality control. As it stands, I give this a 4 star rating simply because it's the best that I have found when compared to everything else I have tried.
