Surprisingly, "dried" doesn't always mean lack of moisture, as these are some juicy morsels that keep my pet performing tricks for treats until I give out. Each one is a generous portion, even for my baby who's a pretty big boy, so I always slice them before feeding. It's also great to aid those sometimes finicky eaters, as an occasional sliced topper for meals. The package may seem small, but a little goes a long way.

Fresh Is Best's freeze-dried treats enter the preparation process frozen, then are allowed to dry at low temperatures stretched out over a period of days. This process allows for maximum nutrient retention of the raw product. Many so-called freeze-dried treats are processed quickly in a day or less at temperatures exceeding 180 degrees Fahrenheit, effectively cooking the product. This defeats the purpose of freeze-drying, as enzymes and other essential nutrients begin to deteriorate at 118 degrees Fahrenheit.
