(More customer reviews)This has the real Louisiana flavor, and I'm reviewing it on that. The size is up to you; you can see that before ordering. I'd like bigger portions; but this is rich enough that sometimes the little package is enough. Shall we compare?
I had just gone through an order of Campbell Chunky Grilled Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, 15.25-Ounce Microwavable Containers (Pack of 8). Good soup, adequate serving size. Nice flavor; but more for Yankees, I think. I liked it fine
Then I decided to order this Zatarain's gumbo. A little more than half the serving size; but 12 rather than 8, a couple bucks more.
The Campbell's wins on quantity versus cost, of course; and if that's your main thing, go for it. It's good soup, as I say. Thick and tasty.
However, are you looking for soup or gumbo? Ah, there's the difference. If you've had real Louisiana gumbo, you'll immediately taste the difference. If you haven't you'l learn something with Zatarain's. You may not like it; but at least you'll have tasted probably as good a gumbo as you'll find in a microwavable package. Yep, it's a flavor that says "gumbo," not "soup."
Oh, both are easy to heat up; but Zatarain's has the edge there. Rip off the top of that package at pre-marked place and set standing up (don't worry, it won't fall and mine turns) in your microwave for a minute. Pour into a bowl. Grab a spoon. Eat. Or, I guess you can pour the hot gumbo down your gullet straight from the package and not wash a bowl and spoon. Wear a bib, it's thick.
You might also pour it over rice, the traditional serving style, Matter of fact, it should go well with Zatarain's Yellow Rice, Ready To Serve Side, 8.8-Ounce Microwavable Pouches (Pack of 12). Then the portion size increases and you really have the real thing. Now you got it!
Like I say, you may prefer the soup; but you may also just heat up two packages of Zatarain's. If you're looking for gumbo, it's worth it.
