Black & Decker FP1550S 10-Cup Food Processor, Stainless Steel and Black Review

After reading several bad reviews I had decided not to get it - even though, at the price, 10 cup size and strong engine power of 500 watts it seemed the best deal compared to other brands that cost twice as much, or even more.
Anyway, I had written it off until I happened to see a unit on display at Target and was able to touch it and inspect it for myself. It looked perfectly fine to me. The blade seemed thick and sturdy. I checked out how the lid opens and closes etc and couldn't find anything visibly wrong with it. Maybe you have to get used to it, and not use brute force on any parts, but it's not rocket science. So I ended up buying it.
When I tried it out at home I was careful not to force any parts. There are two safety features. The first one is that the lid needs to be locked. The second one is that the cup needs to be locked as well, with the handle aligned in the front (as seen in the product picture above). If it's not in that position it won't start!!! At first mine wouldn't start, and I thought I had bought a lemon - until I figured it out. (Yeah, I don't read product manuals either).
It's been only 2 days, but so far it's been working just fine. I don't know what kind of miracles other "more advanced" machines can perform, but I am happy with what this unit does for me: it chops up stuff!
Is it loud? I can only compare it to my Oster blender. It's less noisy than the blender. After a few uses I became more familiar with working the lid etc. I'll be using it a lot and should it break down anytime soon I guarantee I will back here posting about it. Until then, this one gets two thumbs up. It's a solid product and a bargain at this price.

Black & Decker FP2500 PowerPro Wide-Mouth 10-Cup Food Processor, White Review

Black and Decker FP2500 PowerPro Wide-Mouth 10-Cup Food Processor, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
1 - 500 watt motor is more powerful than most other food processors
2 - Two speeds allows a little more precision during use
3 - Suction cup feet hold it pretty steady even when chopping a lot of veggies
4 - Comes with a dough kneading blade
5 - No louder than my little 3 cup chopper when running
6 - Has a wide mouth chute (see cons below)
7 - Large capacity (10 cups)
Cons
1 - No convenient way to store the cutting disc or blade when not in use. Both won't fit in the bowl during storage. The B&D FP2500S model comes with the storage lid. Or you can order it for $9.95 (part # - 07239GZ4)
2 - Goofy feeder chute only allows you to continually feed food into the small chute. In order to use the wide mouth chute, the chute must be removed, stopping the machine.
3 - Like most other Food processors, will only hold about 3 cups of liquid before it runs over to top of the shaft and leaks out the bottom. This is common with most brands and this model is no different.
4 - Having to lock the bowl on the base, the lid on the bowl, and the chute on the lid before the thing will run; is a pain. I understand the B&D is trying to make sure no one gets hurt using this thing but...geezz.
I own several higher end appliances from Kitchen Aid and Cuisinart. No one is going to mistake this food processor for one from either of those two companies. That being said, at $60 bucks it is one third the cost of a comparable sized Kitchen Aid unit.
I have owned this unit for a couple of weeks and have used it on about a dozen different chores. Overall it performs very well. It shreds cheese easily assuming the cheese is cold. I have used it to chop nuts and make bread crumbs. And it shreds carrots well. It comes with a dough blade, but since I have been using my Kitchen Aid stand mixer (the one appliance I could not live without) to knead dough for 10 years, I doubt I will ever use this feature.
If you need an inexpensive food processor for occasional use...this unit should work well for you.

Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black and Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster Oven

We looked at a number of ovens and wanted something that did the basic things and didn't take up too much space. No convection (we have a convection oven) and no digital - its just a basic appliance. We looked at the B&D 240 but this just seemed too basic and too flimsy. Then we saw this one. It has all the basics, it's a good, small size and its silver / black which matches our kitchen. It has 3 controls (as compared to the basic model w/ 2) making it easy to select temp, function and time. The handle is securely attached to the glass door -the metal ends wrap around the glass so it won't fall off (a complaint about other ovens). It has a nice slide out crumb tray that has access from the front with the oven door close - this makes it very easy to empty. Nicely toasted our first bagel in just a few minutes and it was very evenly browned, something our regular toaster did not do well at all.
Pros
Gets hot fast
Basic controls work well
Easy access crumb tray
Even toasting and heating
Cons
Not many
The top and sides do get hot so don't store anything on this!
